
A graduate of the University of Amsterdam, Maarten H.J. van den Berg is a
Political Scientist by training. He has been engaged in research on indigenous rights advocacy and development policy in Latin America, based in Quito, Ecuador (FLACSO) and later on in Florence, Italy (European University Institute).
In 2000, Maarten returned to the Netherlands. Since then, he has worked as an
Editor and
Communication Advisor for a variety of organizations, including Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA), and the International Network of E-Communities (INEC), an international cooperation project initiated by the Netherlands Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. He was Editor-in-Chief of the
Review of International Social Questions (RISQ), a web magazine on international politics, and
ICT Update, a bimonthly magazine on ICTs for agriculture and rural development in ACP countries.
Currently, Maarten works at the
Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) as
Head of Knowledge & Communication. In his spare time Maarten cooks, reads books and runs
MyHeadlines, an Internet-based news service.
